Barnes LIONS Club
"Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Safety"
In June 2017, Chicago businessman Melvin Jones asked delegates from several men's clubs to combine their drive, intelligence and ambition to work towards improving their communities.  And so a new organization was born, the Association of Lions.

Today Lions Club International is the largest service club organization in the world with over 1.4 million members world wide.

What do LIONS do?   LIONS meet the critical unmet needs of their community and of the world, ranging from assisting the visually impaired and working with local youth to feeding the hungry, and taking care of our environment and medical missions and disaster relief.

LIONS Club International Purposes include:  *To promote principles of good government and citizenship, *To take interest in civic, cultural, social and moral community welfare, AND *To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, with efficiency and promotion of high ethical standards in all endeavors.
The Barnes Chapter of LIONS Club International sponsors or assists in numerable community service projects and community events each year.  They include:

St. Patrick's Pancake Brunch

The Barnes Lions Club serves Pancakes, Eggs, and Sausage on the Saturday closest to St. Patrick's Day.  Free will donation and all proceeds go towards various community projects or charitable groups.  The 2017 Pancake Feed Proceeds went towards installing a new handicap assessable bathroom at the firehouse.  This new bathroom will enable Barnes to keep their Voting Polls.
Easter Egg Hunt

The Barnes Lions Club holds an old fashioned easter egg Hunt, the Saterday before Easter, every year. The members hand dye around 30 dozen hard boiled eggs each season, for the young ones to seek.  Twelve Hand assembled prize baskets are given out to the finders of the prize eggs. The hunt begins 10:00 am sharp. Everyone welcome!
Santa and Soup!

The City of Barnes, and The Barnes Lions Club hosts a free will donation soup luncheon. Along with the meal, you can also enter to win various items from the raffle drawing! (Must be present to win) Following the lunch and drawing Santa arrives via firetruck to visit with the kids!
Other Community Projects

Each year the Lions Club sponsors a "Gun Raffle", profits go to Scholarship funds given to two local high school students each year, one Hanover High School Senior and one Linn High School Senior.

Business District Flowers
The Lions Club donates funds towards flowers in conjunction with the Happy Spirit 4-H Club, that are then planted in the planters in front of the Center Street Business.
